Matthew Riggins, M.D., FAAFP


Born In Milan , Tennessee and raised in Fayetteville, Tennessee  Matthew graduated form Central High School in 1976. He enrolled at Vanderbilt University before transferring to tthe University of Mississippi graduating with a double major in Biology and Chemistry.  He then enrolled in the PhD program at Ole Miss studying  biochemistry.

In 1982 Matthew was accepted at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies.  His clinical work was performed at the Staffordshire District General Hospital and St. George’s Infirmity in Stafford, England where he met his future wife, Sara, founder of Hawley Farm Stables.  Graduating in 1986, he completed his post graduate residency in Family Medicine at the Kingsport based program of East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine during which he and Sara were married.  During his final year he served  as chief resident.  Obtaining his board certification in Family Medicine, he and Sara moved to Bedford, Pennsylvania and practiced until February 1991 at which point they returned to the Tri Cities area where Matthew has practiced Emergency Medicine until this day.

In addition to being active  in the establishment  and management of Hawley Farm Stables, Matthew is active in the medical community.  Some of his services include:

  • Medical Director, Ballad Health/MSHA American Heart Association programs
