Courtney was born in South Carolina and raised in the Tri Cities area.  She has been riding since the age of 7 when she was given 2 lessons as a birthday gift and a lifelong passion for all things equestrian was born.  She bought her first horse at age 8, a horse she kept until age 18.  As a child she lived and breathed for showing, “an event for which it was never too hot or too cold or too wet!”

Graduating from Virginia High School in 2006, she entered college at East Tennessee State University before moving to California in 2012.  While in California she began showing jumpers and began competing in many events in the greater San Diego area. She also was fortunate to attend a clinic sponsored by Rob Gage, head coach of the Venezuelan Olympic show jumping team.  It was also during this time that she bought her current horse, Nick, a 22 year old bay Kwpn gelding standing 16-3 tall and imported from the Netherlands.

Courtney met her husband, Benji, a native of Sullivan County before moving to California and they were married in 2014 as he was serving our county in the Marine Corps.  Feeling that something was missing in her life as well as at Benji’s insistence she began teaching in addition to competing.  Moving back to Tennessee in 2016 with her new daughter, Lucy and joined by Benji at the end of his service, she reconnected with Heather McCloud of Emory and Henry College whom she had met while showing in this area.  Courtney was invited to teach beginner and intermediate classes as faculty in the equestrian college of E & H, a position held until the spring of 2017.  It was at this point that circumstances brought her to Hawley Farm Stables where she now serves as barn manager and instructor.

Courtney has been a past Equitation Champion past high point rider of the East Tennessee Hunter Jumper Association.  She enjoys teaching all aspects of riding and barn management.  In her spare time she enjoys South Carolina football and spending time with family.  Courtney, Benji and Lucy along with Nick and their dog Reggie reside in the Bluff City area.
